Presentation

Dyspnea and chest pain.

Patient Data

Age: 40 yeas old
Gender: Female

CT scout image reveals irregular right pleural thickening with large apical mass that erodes the right 4th rib posteriorly. CT images reveal irregular circumferential nodular pleural thickening and masses that involves the costal, mediastinal and diaphragmatic pleura with extension into the fissures.

Associated reduction of right lung volume and erosion of the posterior aspect of right 4th rib.

Diagnosis: Malignant mesothelioma T4N0M0 (pathologically proved)

Case Discussion

Mesothelioma is an aggresive malgnant tumor of the serous sacs. It usually involves the pleura but may also invovles the peritoneum or pericardium and associated with poor prognosis and short term survival.
