Malplaced NG tube

Case contributed by Dr Jeremy Jones

Stroke requiring NG tube feeding. Subsequent shortness of breath, pyrexia and signs of infection.

Modality: X-ray

Case Discussion

The initial radiograph confirms the location of the NG tube in the right lower lobe.  Despite not being used, 3 days later, pyrexia, signs of infection and clinical deterioration occurs.

Repeat radiograph demonstrates acute unilateral airspace opacification consistent with infection.
