Patient Data

Age: 3 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Nasogastric tube is in the airway, with the tip projected over the right lung base. The lungs are otherwise clear.

Case Discussion

The nasogastric tube was removed, and a new tube was placed. When endotracheal tubes are malpositioned, the tips will often end in the right main bronchus. Nasogastric tubes are longer and thinner than endotracheal tubes, so when they are malpositioned they can extend further into the airways.
