Requires long-term antibiotics for wound infection. Post PICC insertion.

Patient Data

Age: 60
Gender: Female
X-ray

Annotated image

A cropped and highlighted view of the line in the internal jugular vein.

Case Discussion

Image-guidance greatly reduces the rate of malpositioned PICCs. The correct position of the tip is in the superior vena cava or at the cavo-atrial junction (depending on institutional policy).

This PICC was subsequently successfully repositioned.
