Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female

CT Face

ct

There is an angulated fracture through the base of the right mandibular condyle with associated dislocation of the condyle. An accompanying non-displaced fracture of the parasymphyseal alveolar mandible (near the root of the 31 and 41 teeth) is also present.

Post-op

ct

The mandibular fractures have undergone plate and screw fixation.

Case Discussion

This case emphasizes the importance of considering the mandible as a bony ring. If there is one fracture or dislocation identified, then it is important to search hard for a second accompanying fracture or dislocation.
