Eccentric attachment of umbilical cord to placenta. The cord attachment is seen within 2 cm of the placental edge. Vessels traversing into the placenta from the cord attachment site confirm the finding and help differentiate it from the lateral course of the cord parallel to the placenta. An associated finding of the loop of the cord around the neck is also seen.
Case Discussion
Marginal cord insertion is a routine finding on ultrasound. Owing to the risk of placental detachment 1, the condition may require regular follow-up, especially if associated with bleeding per vaginam. In the above case, an associated nuchal cord was found.
