Massive pericardial effusion

Short of breath, hypoxia.

Patient Data

Age: 50
Gender: Male

Enlarged cardiac silhouette.

Small to moderate bilateral pleural effusions.

No priors.


Massive pericardial effusion. Apparent compression or collapse of right ventricle. Reflux of contrast into IVC.

Moderate right and small left pleural effusion.

Case Discussion

Massive pericardial effusion.

The patient subsequently deteriorated clinically and was found to have signs of tamponade.
