In the anterior and superior mediastinum, there is a well-circumscribed mass measuring 110 x 90 x 100 mm. The mass exhibits coarse calcifications, with areas of macroscopic fat and soft tissue density. This mass exerts a compressive effect on the right main bronchus, the right main pulmonary artery, and the right atrium.

The patient underwent surgical resection, and the mass was diagnosed as a mature teratoma.

Case Discussion

This case highlights a large, well-circumscribed anterior mediastinal mass, consistent with a mature teratoma, confirmed post-surgical resection.

Mature teratomas are the most common mediastinal germ cell tumors, typically benign but require surgical excision due to potential complications like compression of adjacent structures. Despite their benign nature, careful follow-up is essential due to the low but present risk of malignant transformation.

The prognosis following resection is excellent, as observed in this patient.
