Mature ovarian teratoma

Case contributed by Dr Abdallah Al Khateeb

Lower abdominal discomfort.

Patient Data

Age: 21 years old
Gender: Female

Abdomen and pelvic CT with oral and i.v. contrast

A large walled off predominantly fat density lesion seen in the pelvis, with a hyperattenuating tooth-like (dentiform) structure seen inside.

Case Discussion

Since the size of this mass exceeded 7 cm, which is regarded as the cut off point beyond of which removal of the mass is recommended, to avoid possible ovarian torsion in the future, surgery was scheduled.

Pathology report confirmed mature ovarian teratoma.
