Bulbous anechoic structure is seen in the right lower quadrant. High-frequency images reveal the structure arising from bowel, with a calcified density at its neck with mildly thick wall, as well as fine echoes within the lesion.
Most likely diagnosis of appendicitis was made, however the lesion was very close to the midline and this was conveyed to the surgeon. Rather than making the usual incision in the right iliac fossa, went from midline and found an infected, dilated Meckel diverticulum containing a faecolith.
