Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Term baby boy born in green amniotic fluid. First cry at 8 minutes. Respiratory distress on examination.

Patient Data

Age: newborn
Gender: Male
x-ray

Increased lung volume bilaterally with a right sided pneumothorax. Faint opacification is seen at the right lung base. NG tube in the stomach.

Case Discussion

Meconium aspiration occurs in term or post-term infants secondary to intrauterine or intrapartum aspiration of the meconium, usually in the setting of fetal distress. Usually, there is a history of meconium-stained fluid at birth.
