Meconium aspiration

Case contributed by Jeremy Jones
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Prolonged labor and difficult delivery.

Patient Data

Age: Neonate (day 0)
Gender: Male
x-ray

Bilateral course linear opacities with predominance at the bases and an accompanying effusion.

Case Discussion

With the history of a difficult labor and delivery, the top diagnosis here is meconium aspiration, and the radiological features are classical. Pleural effusions are not uncommon in meconium aspiration and should not draw you toward a diagnosis of TTN.
