Medial avulsion fracture of the knee

Case contributed by Craig Hacking
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Football injury. Swollen knee.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

Avulsion fracture of the medial femoral condyle. Large joint effusion.

Case Discussion

The position of the bone fragment is too proximal to represent a Steida fracture (MCL avulsion) and therefore probably represents an avulsion of the distal adductor magnus muscle insertion.
