Medial collateral ligament complete rupture

Presentation

Valgus injury. Clinically medial collateral ligament injured. Other injuries?

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

Complete rupture of the medial collateral ligament without any serious associated injuries, apart from a modest joint effusion and a minor contusional lateral femoral condyle bruise. 

Intact cruciate ligaments and menisci.

Ganglion cyst associated with proximal tibiofibular joint.

Case Discussion

MCL injuries are associated with other intra-articular abnormalities. In this case, however, the MCL injury appears to be relatively isolated, lacking additional serious intra-articular injuries.
