Medial malleolus fracture

Presentation

The patient accidentally had trauma by a heavy object over the right ankle and then he twisted it, on examination: there is pain and swelling over the right ankle both malleolus side with hematoma and ecchymosis with more pain over the medial side.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

X-ray shows a non-displaced right medial malleolus fracture.

Soft tissue swelling around the ankle joint. 

Case Discussion

Immobilization of the fracture in a splint in such a case is often sufficient. 
Sometimes it may need an ORIF by a screw if the fracture is displaced and unstable.
