An anechoic rim is abutting the tibial cortex at the site of pain pointed by the patient. There is mild local soft tissue thickening along with hypervascularity.
No erosion of tibial cortex locally. No mass lesion.
The contralateral asymptomatic side was examined for comparison; which shows normal ultrasound findings.
Case Discussion
Ultrasound findings are consistent with shin splints (medial tibial stress syndrome) in a patient who recently started running as physical activity.
