Medial tibial stress syndrome

Recently started running upto 5 km / day during last one month. Complainting of pain in right proximal medial third of leg - Few days. No fever. No local skin changes. Plain radiograph - Not available.

Patient Data

Age: 24 yrs
Gender: Male

There is an anechoic rim abutting tibial cortex at the site of pain pointed by patient. There is mild local soft tisse thickening along with hypervascularity. There is no erosion of tibial cortex locally. There is no mass lesion.

Contralateral asymptomatic side was examined for comparision; which shows normal ultrasound findings.

Case Discussion

Ultrasound findings of shin splint ( medial tibial stress sydrome ) in a patient who recently started running as a physical activity.
