1 month history of pain in both anterior medial tibia ? Stress fracture.
Patient Data
The midshaft of both the tibia show fairly symmetrical marrow edema that can be detected in T1 and T2 sequences. No cortical fracture or surrounding soft tissue edema identified. No other gross abnormality seen. The findings are in keeping with grade 3 medial tibial stress syndrome.
Case Discussion
Medial tibial stress syndrome is a kind of stress injury that occurs at the medial tibia. Typically occurs in athletes and is characterized by localized pain during exercise at the medial surface of the tibial shaft.
MRI is the most sensitive radiological examination. It may demonstrate a spectrum of findings ranging from normal to marrow edema or stress fracture.
