Median nerve traumatic neuroma - wrist

Presentation

A young male broke a glass during an anger episode resulting in the right wrist palmar laceration 6 weeks back. Debridement with primary suturing was done. Presented with clinical features of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

The palmaris longus and part of the flexor retinaculum are torn which were also findings during debridement. The median nerve at the proximal and the distal ends of the carpal tunnel shows a normal fascicular echopattern. The nerve in the center of the tunnel shows fusiform hypoechoic thickening sparing ulnar most fascicles. Flexor tendons are normal.

Case Discussion

The patient presented with post wrist laceration carpal tunnel syndrome-like clinical features. The ultrasound shows median neuroma in the carpal tunnel.
