Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

Wide right paratracheal stripe. 


Right paratracheal adenopathy.

Case Discussion

Biopsy of this lesion proved it to be melioidosis, which is an infectious disease caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei. 

The lung is the most common affected organ. Despite the advent of new diagnostic techniques, chest radiographs are still useful in diagnosis of melioidosis.

The radiological findings include multiple small pulmonary nodules due to haematogenous spread, and multilobar infiltrations that start at the upper lobes in the acute pneumonia, which with rapid progression of disease, may result in cavity or abscess formation
