Presentation
Chronic calf pain.
Patient Data
The principal findings in this images are cortical irregular thickening of fibula that causes narrowing of the medullary space.
Linear periosteal thickening of the proximal and posterior tibia resembling dripping wax, that correlates with the patient's site of pain.
Case Discussion
Melorheostosis is a benign sclerosing bone dysplasia, characterized clinically by chronic pain and soft-tissue contractures when symptomatic. The presentation could be monostotic, polyostotic or monomelic, mainly lower limb. This entity has been related to a functional loss mutation in the LEMD3 gene, as well as osteopoikilosis. Imaging findings include linear or curvilinear cortical thickening in tubular bones resembling candle melting wax. In this case, the patient presented chronic calf pain.
