Meningioma (sphenoid wing - en plaque)

Left eye proptosis

Patient Data

Age: 50
Gender: Male

Expansion, thickening, extensive sclerosis and hyperostosis involves the left sphenoid wing and to less extent the squamous portion of the temporal bone

Associated extra-osseous left intra-orbital small soft tissue component is seen near the orbital apex compressing and displacing the optic nerve medially.

Subsequent left proptosis is noted.

Case Discussion

Sphenoid wing meningioma is a meningioma that occurs near the sphenoid wing; While the "En plauque meningioma" represent a group of meningiomas known by its particular sheet-like dural involvement and its disproportionately large bone hyperostosis

These tumors are mainly a bone disease, as their symptoms & prognosis are influenced mostly by the extension of bone invasion instead of intradural involvement,
