Meningitis-septations of subarachnoid spaces

Presentation

Fever, altered level of consciousness, convulsions, undertreatment of bacterial meningitis.

Patient Data

Age: 4 months
Gender: Female

Diffuse leptomeningeal thickening and enhancement in the frontotemporal region, on T1W post-contrast and FLAIR post-contrast.

Widening of the subarachnoid spaces in the frontotemporal region, with enhanced internal septations.

Dural thickening and enhancement in the frontal region.

No subdural collection/empyema, no cerebral abscess.

Case Discussion

This baby was treated for bacterial meningitis after the lab results and developed generalized tonic-clonic convulsions, and persistent fever, MRI study shows diffuse leptomeningeal thickening and enhancement with enhanced internal septations in subarachnoid spaces related to complicated meningitis.
