Presentation

Knee pain.

Patient Data

Age: 70
Gender: Male

The images demonstrate the distribution of calcium crystals in cartilage, ligaments and joint capsule in axial, sagittal and coronal views of the knee.

Degenerative changes as marginal and patellofemoral osteophyte formation.

Subchondral cystic changes are seen at the mid to lateral facet joints of the patella and medial tibia plateau.

Case Discussion

Meniscal calcification can be a predisposing factor to osteoarthritis of the knee joint and is part of a spectrum of chondrocalcinosis.
