Echogenic mass in the root of the small bowel mesentery (anterior to the aorta) through which a normal appearing superior mesenteric artery passes (on duplex ultrasound)

CT performed to evaluate the "mesenteric mass" seen on ultrasound. A well defined ovoid fatty mass encasing the mesenteric vessels (SMA/SMV), displacing adjacent small bowel (jejunal) loops.
Case Discussion
Mesenteric panniculitis is usually (but not always) asymptomatic.
