Metacarpal fracture

Presentation

This patient accidentally had trauma from a heavy steel object at work. On examination there is pain and swelling over the left hand dorsal side at the level of the 3rd metacarpal bone, no open injury or deformity.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Oblique non-displaced fracture at the neck of the left third metacarpal bone.

No dislocation is seen.

Case Discussion

  • The patient was wearing his PPE at the time of the injury.
  • This fracture needs only immobilization by a splint.
