Presentation

The patient tripped and fall last night, he hit his right hand forcefully against the ground, on examination: tenderness, dorsum of the right, hand and right little finger.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

X-ray shows a non-displaced fracture at the head of the right 5th metacarpal bone.

Case Discussion

Fractures of the 5th metacarpal form 25% of all metacarpal fractures which equates to about 10% of all hand fractures.
