Metachronous carcinoma left breast

Presentation

A 66 year old patient with a previous left breast carcinoma is followed up annually with mammography.

Patient Data

Age: 66
Gender: Female
Mammography

2012 left MLO view shows post surgical changes realted to therapy for left breast carcinoma in 2009. Post surgical distortion of the parenchyma.

Mammography

A very small spiculated lesion appears inferiorly on the MLO view in 2013

Ultrasound

A solid badly defined lesion at 8 o'clock coincides with the mammographic abnormailty. IDC on biopsy.

A breast carcinoma should make annual follow up mammograms mandatory. Once a patient has a carcinoma her chances of developing another are higher than the general population.
