Soft tissue mass in forearm ? neoplasm. Sheet metal worker

Patient Data

Age: 23
Gender: Male

MRI forearm

Skin marker (vitamin E capsule) placed over soft tissue lump.


Radiograph performed after the MRI

Note soft vtissue swelling and metallic ring in the subcutaneous tissues.

The patient had no knowledge of penetrating injury!

Case Discussion

Although relatively uncommon, foreign body reaction needs to be considered when patients present with 'lumps and bumps'. This case again illustrates that it is crucial to have plain radiographs if MRI images of the muscoloskeletal system are to be correctly interpreted.
