Bilateral basal patchy airspace opacification. Irregularity of both heart borders suggests lingula and right middle lobe involvement. The hemidiaphragms appear crisp and clear. No effusion.
Case Discussion
Bilateral patchy airspace opacification is a common finding in children with respiratory symptoms and clinical features suggesting infection. It is most commonly seen in viral chest infection, e.g. RSV. In this case, the patient was positive for metapneumovirus.
