Presentation
Know metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lung. Bilateral leg weakness.
Patient Data
The vertebral column is diffusely infiltrated with metastatic deposits.
At T6 and T10 the metastases involve the posterior elements and encroach on the spinal canal, with no CSF surrounding the cord at these levels, compressing the cord.
Left sided rib metastases and pleural thickening.
Comment: Diffusely bony metastatic disease (lung primary) with T6 and T10 level cord compression
Case Discussion
A typical example of diffuse bony metastatic disease with cord compression.
The T1 sequence is invariably the best for the assessment of the degree of bone metastases.
The T2 sequences for assessment of the CSF in the canal and cord edema.
Lung primaries are one of the commonest to cause this degree of metastatic disease along with breast malignancies.
