Presentation

Worsening severe central back pain for 2 days, 10/10, associated nausea. Known breast cancer.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Female

An altered signal intensity focus appearing hypointense on T1 and hyperintense on STIR images is noted involving the T5-T6-T7 disco-vertebral units including their posterior elements.

There is encasement of the thecal sac and cord with subtle alerted T2 hyperintense cord signals.

Case Discussion

Spinal cord compression is a surgical emergency, usually requiring prompt surgical decompression to prevent permanent neurological impairment.

This was a confirmed case of metastatic spinal cord compression from breast carcinoma.
