Presentation

A chief complaint of pain in the left foot after a metal object fell on his left foot last night while working. On the exam; tenderness and swelling above the 1st metatarsal bone.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Barely noticeable fracture line in the left first metatarsal shaft.

Soft tissue swelling is noted.

Case Discussion

It is necessary when studying the x-ray, taking into account the patient’s clinical history, focussing on the area of pain, and making at least two images of the patient in two different positions.
