Presentation

Pain in the 5th metatarsal region after foot trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 9 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Cortical buckling of the 5th metatarsal neck.

The first image demonstrates 5th metatarsal fracture at the site of pain pointed by patient.

The second image demonstrates normal 4th metatarsal for comparison.

Case Discussion

If a radiograph shows cortical buckling for which we are not sure to be a fracture, ultrasound can be utilized as a valuable adjunctory technique.
