Metatarsal stress fracture

Foot stood on while at athletics training. Tender laterally. ? Jones fracture

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

Oblique lucency through the fourth metatarsal diaphysis. There is surrounding periosteal reaction.

No other fracture or dislocation.

Case Discussion

Further history obtained confirmed some low level pain in this area, exacerbated by his training.

This was felt to represent a stress fracture with an acute injury rather than a healing fracture with callus.
