Presentation

Failure to pass meconium, abdominal distention

Patient Data

Age: Neonate
Gender: Female
Fluoroscopy

Scout shows dilated bowel loops.

Water-soluble contrast was given through foleys catheter placed in the rectum which outlines the whole length of the large colon which is diffusely small in caliber representing microcolon. Reflux of contrast into the distal ileum is also noted. Multiple filling defects are seen throughout the colon and in distal ileum representing meconium.

Case Discussion

Water-soluble contrast enema is used in cases of meconium ileus which usually clears the impacted meconium.
