Presentation

Abdominal distension, vomiting and no meconium passage

Patient Data

Age: 5 days
Gender: Male
Fluoroscopy

The colon is opacified with contrast showing a narrow caliber.

The distal ileal loop is also opacified showing some filling defects.

The small bowel is dilated and gas-filled.

The rectosigmoid ratio is greater than 1.

Case Discussion

Microcolon (unused colon) can be seen with obstruction of the small bowel, such as jejunal and ileal atresia, total colonic aganglionosis and meconium ileus.
