Microlobulated margin of thyroid nodule: metastasis to thyroid

Presentation

48 year-old patient with a highly aggressive neuroendocrine lung tumor with cerebral, liver/right adrenal gland and thyroid gland metastases.

Patient Data

Age: 48
Gender: Female

Heterogeneous mass within the left thyroid lobe, predominantly hypoechoic compared to thyroid parenchyma associated to multiple supraclavicular adenopathies. Note the microlobulated and irregular margins suggesting an aggressive behaviour of this lesion.

Case Discussion

Microlobulated margins or scalloped appearance have been described as an indicator of malignancy or aggressive behaviour.
