Midbrain cavernoma

Case contributed by Dr Abdullah Alqudah

Presentation

Patient presents with headache.

Patient Data

Age: 45 year old
Gender: Female
MRI

There is small well-defined right midbrain lesion demonstrating heterogeneous signal intensity on T2 and FLAIR images with a rim of T2 signal void, and blooming artifact on GRE images.

Case Discussion

This appearance of a central "popcorn" lesion with a rim of T2 signal void and susceptibility artifact is highly suggestive of a cavernoma, though the site is atypical.
