Presentation

Asthmatic with recent viral infection. Worsening cough and right-sided chest pain.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Triangular opacity in the medial right lower zone with partial obscuration of the right heart border. The right hemidiaphragm is preserved. Volume loss is more apparent on the lateral projection although the trachea is deviated to the right and the horizontal fissure is depressed.

Case Discussion

This case represents RML collapse due to mucous plugging on a background of asthma as there were no infective clinical features. The patient recovered quickly with oxygen and a repeat CXR 24 hours later was normal (not available).
