Info

Dorsally angulated fracture of the neck of the middle phalanx of the left fifth finger.

Mild soft tissue swelling noted.

Case Discussion

The phalangeal head is vulnerable to avascular necrosis due to blood supply transversing across the fracture site.

Orthopaedic review and surgical management are recommended for severe angulation of fracture of the phalanx to preserve vascular supply to the phalangeal head.

A good surgical prognosis can be achieved with early identification and referral to a hand surgeon.
