Presentation

Bilious vomiting for 1 day.

Patient Data

Age: 1 year
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Grey scale and color Doppler US through the mid abdomen beautifully depicting the whirlpool sign of the vessels and surrounding small bowel loops demonstrated on transverse scan.

Proximal bowel loops are fluid filled and dilated.

 

Case Discussion

Features are of midgut volvulus. It mostly presents in the first year of life. It is a complication of malrotation. Urgent surgical repair is required.
