Presentation

Vomiting and severe abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 12 years
Gender: Female
ct
  • significant distension of the stomach and duodenum

  • small bowel loops are in the right hemi-abdomen consistent with intestinal malrotation

  • twisted mesentery representing a whirlpool sign

  • inverted SMA/SMV relationship

  • mild free fluid within the peritoneal cavity

Case Discussion

The CT features are suggestive of midgut volvulus in the background of intestinal malrotation.
