Presentation
Threads of IUCD not seen on clinical examination, and not seen in uterus on ultrasound.
Patient Data
IUCD is seen in the left lateral abdomen, well away from the expected position of the uterus, presumed to have migrated out of the uterus.
A new IUCD was fitted, and the migrated IUCD was not found at laparoscopy. Repeat AXR to check position of IUCD(s).
The migrated IUCD is noted again in the left lateral abdomen, and a new one is seen in the expected pelvic location of the uterus.
Case Discussion
The findings are consistent with migration of the first IUCD with no adverse clinical consequences (such as peritonitis or bowel obstruction). It was not located at laparoscopy and a decision was made to not pursue it further given the lack of adverse clinical features.
