Miliary metastases from papillary thyroid cancer

Patient known case of papillary thyroid carcinoma status post resection.

Patient Data

Age: 20
Gender: Female

X ray show multiple bilateral nodular opacities, with diffuse distribution, predominantly in the lower two thirds of both hemithorax.

CT show extensive micronodular compromise of both hemithorax similar amount compatible with miliary dissemination of the known primary papillary thyroid cancer. No pleural or pericardial effusion. 
Heart and vascular mediastinal structures unaltered.  No hilar lymphadenopathy, mediastinal or axillary identified . In the visible segments of the upper abdomen, no significant alterations were identified.

Case Discussion

This case shows the hematogenous spread of papillary thyroid cancer in the form of miliary opacities.
