Acute ischemic stroke

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Female

CXR for NGT position check

The nasogastric tube is seen within the left main bronchus and removal/repositioning is required. No focal consolidation and no pneumothorax.

Calcific nodule is seen in the right upper paratracheal region possibly thyroid calcific nodule.

The tip of the nasogastric tube is located within the stomach projection. Ill-defined opacities in the right mid/lower zone likely due to aspiration or infection.

Case Discussion

The ideal position of a nasogastric tube should be in the sub-diaphragmatic position in the stomach. Ideally it should be at least 10 cm beyond the gastro-esophageal junction 1.
