A curved metallic structure with coiled ends is located in the region of the mitral valve.
Midline sternotomy wires indicate previous invasive thoracic surgery.
Case Discussion
The mitral valve C-ring annuloplasty was developed in the mid 1970s, due to concern that the rigidity of a full mitral valve replacement could interfere with the function of the aortic valve. The metallic component of the C-ring annuloplasty, therefore is located away from the left ventricular outflow tract.
