Monochorionic diamniotic twin pregnancy

Case contributed by Maulik S Patel
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Ultrasound for confirmation of pregnancy and dating.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

One gestational sac with 2 yolk sacs and 2 fetal poles with cardiac activity.

Case Discussion

Findings suggest twin pregnancy of monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) type. Although the intertwin membrane is not clearly seen, the presence of two yolk sac is highly suggestive of an MCDA (rather than MCMA) pregnancy.

In this case, there was relevant family history, as the patient herself is one of the twins and there was positive twin pregnancy history on patient's paternal side.
