Radiographs revealed a proximal ulna fracture associated with a radial head dislocation, which characterizes a Monteggia fracture-dislocation.

The Monteggia fracture can be classified as a Bado type II: there is a posterior dislocation of the radial head and a posteriorly angulated ulnar shaft fracture.

Case Discussion

Monteggia fracture-dislocations are fractures of the proximal ulnar shaft associated with radial head dislocation.

They are commonly classified using the Bado classification.

In the present case, there is a posteriorly angulated ulnar shaft fracture associated with a posterior radial head dislocation. This describes a Bado type II fracture.
