Presentation

Persistent subcutaneous swelling following right hip trauma (sustained in road traffic accident two months ago).

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male
mri

A 20 x 60 x 70 mm right sided fluid collection adjacent to the tensor fascia lata is likely to represent a Morel-Lavallée lesion.

Case Discussion

Morel-Lavallée lesions are associated with trauma to the hip and pelvis. They are thought to occur after a shear injury between tensor fascia lata and the overlying fat. The differential diagnosis includes seroma.
